Transportation

Transportation Survey Responses:

1. What does sustainable transportation mean to you?
Sustainable transportation is one that people can rely on daily as a mode of transportation, to and from work, to get to social without having to worry about isolated sporadic timelines. It also means a transportation that financially feasible for the corporation but also the public who is utilising it.

* 2. How are you going to support it in our community?
Once at the council table I believe we need to see action, in regards to better transportation. I think and idea could be to have satellite transfer stations in the outlying areas so more buses could stay in the those communities and bring them to a satellite depot who then has transfers for 1 bus back to town. This could increase the frequency and number of buses leaving the outlying communities to the City core.
I will table a bylaw that would ensure the inclusion of bike/walking path on all new roads created, any roads that will be receiving any major renovations as well supporting bike and walking path to connect subdivisions together. This will promote a healthy community as well as fun safe family friendly activities.
* Above includes answer to Top Public Question 3. What are you going to do to enhance walking, bicycling and transit usage in Greater Sudbury over the next 4 years?

(c) Improvements in transit service and fares to meet the needs of citizens

Greater Sudbury is large in geography. I will endeavour to push for more economic development but at the same time work with the natural environment to ensure that we keep our lakes and waterways healthy and sustainable for many years to come. Working with the professionals who have the knowledge of what is the best balance as well as working in conjunction with the provincial rules and regulations of the MNR as a team we will be able to find solutions to balance development and natural environment protection

I will take the time it needs to ensure that municipal projects and major decisions will be shared with the public in all fashions possible. Climate Change

Climate Change Survey Response:

What actions should the municipality take to reduce carbon emissions and improve community resilience in the face of climate change?
I believe that better enforcement of the anti-idle policy would be a great start, especially with city owned vehicles. They city could purchase more hybrid style vehicle to reduce carbon emissions and improve fuel economy. As a major employer the City should attempt to accommodate personnel scheduling to encourage carpooling to and from work. 2 to 4 people taking 1 vehicle would make a big difference.
