Citizen Engagement Survey Questions Summary

Candidate name 1. How will you ensure that community consultation is done effectively and openly, with productive dialogue from start to finish for municipal projects and decisions?

Jean-Raymond Audet

The Community Consultation does mean that us French-Canadians, who make up more than 30% of the population has had their French Services Cut Back in the Last Few Years. I will ask the Sudbury Council to have Sudbury an Officially Bilingual City in the 2018 Referendum!

Brian Bigger

Each quarter representatives of these community interest groups will be invited to
present their interests before council, encouraging a high level of respect and
involvement.

Jeanne Brohart

I’d like to see public input on key initiatives at all city council meetings with a mic there for input/issues the public would like council to consider which may not have been raised properly. Of course, there would have to be a set time allocated but I think this would be a huge step in the right direction when it comes to representing the public at city hall.

Ron Dupuis

I am firmly committed to open government policies and engaging citizens and community groups in all aspects of community planning.

Jeff Huska

I believe in collaborative leadership and that is by inviting and listening to all stakeholders on projects and decisions.Town hall meetings, radio shows and the media are excellent venues for providing information.

Richard Majkot

Dan Melanson

I will vote for a standard protocol that identifies and considers all sectors of the community.

Ed Pokonzie

Openness!

David Popescu

John Rodriguez

a) By strengthening the structure of the Community Action Networks (CANs);
b) By holding townhall meetings and forums in the various communities comprising Greater Sudbury;
c) By encouraging and supporting councillors to engage with their citizens and to provide feedback to the Mayor and Council.

Candidate name 2. How will you ensure a consistent culture of openness and support for public input across all city departments?

Jean-Raymond Audet

The influence of the Sudbury Chamber of Commerce must be disclose and transparent on our Elected Individuals. We must know where all their support is coming from and for what purpose!

Brian Bigger

I will champion change and awareness of these important issues. This will be done top
down.

Jeanne Brohart

Same as above. I think such an approach would allow staff to better gauge public input via “reactions” provided by the audience when key issues are raised for council’s consideration. I do not like to see council meetings that provide for virtually no time for such public input as I think it is extremely important for the council to represent the people and that means hearing the people.

Ron Dupuis

I plan to engage council and city staff in team building exercises within the first 2 months of being elected. Council and staff need to be aware of their roles and responsibilities so they can work effectively together to serve the people of Sudbury.

Jeff Huska

Bring back the Ombudsman, full time City Auditor, implement 311 fully allowing for the tracking of calls and outcomes. Put markers in place to insure goals are met and instill pride of ownership back in the city.

Richard Majkot

Dan Melanson

By voting for a city standard protocol.

Ed Pokonzie

By regularly informing the residents of Greater Sudbury.

David Popescu

John Rodriguez

Direction from Mayor and Council to all departments that the culture of openness regarding public projects and major decisions will be the order of the day.

Candidate name Explanations:

Jean-Raymond Audet

I notice that us French Canadians are treated like Second class Citizen in this Town, our Services have cut back Federally, Provincially and Provincially and I believe it is at the asking of the Private Sector and other Lobby Groups? Our Plight is not as Bad as our Native Brothers who are treated like Third World Citizens by our Federal Government, the Private Sector and Canadians!

Brian Bigger

From my responses, when I advise you that I will champion the matter, not only will I
also vote in favour. These topics are very important to me and essential to a community
to move forward to the future.
Thank you so much for all the work you do

Jeanne Brohart

C-Unsure. I’ve worked in a Global 100 company and posting agendas two weeks in advance is almost impossible… they are simply too subject to change. Something I would work on but the public has to be realistic on what is doable here. Posting minutes after meetings would of course be more doable.
E-I’ve worked with programmers… this can be extremely expensive… not sure what the city has for I/T resources… but this is a big unsure at this time only because I know what is involved here and I don’t think budgets have approved any big overhaul of city systems and that might be what you need for this.

Ron Dupuis

Jeff Huska

I believe in a weekly or bi-weekly radio show with call ins

Richard Majkot

Dan Melanson

Ed Pokonzie

I have campaigned for more than 20 years publicly for transparency and accountability in municipal affairs.
