Citizen Engagement Survey Questions Summary

Candidate name 1. How will you ensure that community consultation is done effectively and openly, with productive dialogue from start to finish for municipal projects and decisions?

Fernand Bidal

By activating town hall meetings and making sure that CAN committees keep up their great work.Their recommendations can be part of the decision through their councillor. The decision belongs to the councillor.

Kevin Brault

Town hall/public information sessions are absolutely necessary. I would also use social media to have a conversation there as well. Times and technology are changing and we need to change with it and use it's advances to our benefit. Not everyone has time to attend a meeting but if you can find 5 minutes to write an email even it is 3am.

René Lapierre

I will take the time it needs to ensure that municipal projects and major decisions will be shared with the public in all fashions possible. We will send the info via social media, email, regular mail but most of all I intend to have community meetings in a few locations in my ward to ensure maximum accessibility for all. I am always available via telephone or my personal email should people contact me that way. Taking on the slogan “Our City, Our Future” is exactly what I mean, I want this to be our city not mine, I want to ensure that as much information as possible is share to as many constituents imaginable.

André Rivest (Incumbent)

Candidate name 2. How will you ensure a consistent culture of openness and support for public input across all city departments?

Fernand Bidal

To introduce policy that will direct all deparments to properly inform the citizens through town hall meetings of their proposed recommendations or CAN meetings.

Kevin Brault

A clear policy for responding residents complaints needs to be implemented across the board that would include that when an issue reaches a certain level of complaints Council be informed directly. If 100 people have already called or emailed about the same problem council should be contacted by the department.

René Lapierre

I am the voice for the residents of ward 6 once elected. If a resident cannot get the answers, support or information they are looking for I want to be there for them to ensure I get the accurate in a timely fashion. I believe in having an integrity commissioner to oversee what council does, and should a recommendation for change from him/her should be delivered then I will push to ensure that we remain open and transparent to the people we represent as a councillor.

André Rivest (Incumbent)

C) It is unreasonable to have everything out 2 weeks early. Once the motion is on the table its usually delayed 1 month before it can be discussed. I am in favour of all the info coming out for people to view ASAP, but adding 2 weeks to the month delayed process would only further slow progress. I also feel sometimes things need to be changed quickly so its reasonable for last minute items to be introduced. Our city needs to provide more information to the public an faster, to ensure a better informed public can speak out, but an additional 2 week delay is an answer I support.
