Natural Environment Survey Questions Summary

Candidate name 1. How will you balance development with protection of the natural environment?

Jacques Barbeau (Incumbent)

The Green Space Advisory Committee and other groups do us all well by studying these issues and bringing recommendations to council. We need to support their expertise.

Chad Odnokon

Joseph Palmateer

By doing the best we can, to support a re-greening initiative, where privious greenery is replaced with equal or greater amounts, within a specified time period.
Also to have natural water ways be protected as much as possible without infringing too much on other peoples rights.

Michael Vagnini

Dan Xilon

I would strive to ensure that any development was meeting its greenspace requirements and consider expanding such requirements as necessary

Candidate name 2. How will you champion opportunities in your ward to fill gaps in parks service and to protect unique natural areas (identified by the Green Space Advisory Panel)?

Jacques Barbeau (Incumbent)

This remains a priority ,but, going hand in hand is also identifying areas where the city may divest itself of some parks etc to make others better. That unfortunately is reality.

Chad Odnokon

Joseph Palmateer

Natural areas which fall under public property such as wetlands, continue or start to have designated areas off limits to heavy public intrusion and set aside solely for wildlife alone with limited access to the public .
Work with Park officials to see how services can be improved within the park system.

Michael Vagnini

Dan Xilon

I would review all present plans and work closely with the Advisory Panel and Parks department to see how best these areas may be protected.

D-Somewhat in favour , but, this is a balancing act

Chad Odnokon

Joseph Palmateer

Again I keep coming back to the rights of private land owners... The University would directly have to be involved in such a decision if it involves their property. Usually common ground can be forged by working with the University and the community, as to find a way which can benefit all, but in the end.. private property is private property. Only when something directly physically affects your property do to what happens on theirs, creating a health issue, should the city get involved.
