Sustainable Transportation Survey Questions Summary

Candidate name 1. What does sustainable transportation mean to you?

Jean-Raymond Audet

Sustainable Transportation is to provide Access of a Form of travel to All its People!

Brian Bigger

Sustainable Transportation in my opinion includes more than vehicular transport and
includes means by air water and rail as well. I believe it requires comprehensive
planning to ensure that the preferred method of transport is something that has minimal
impact on the environment, promotes a healthy lifestyle and encourages the reduced
consumption of fossil fuels.

Jeanne Brohart

Sustainable transportation needs to be an efficient, effective and environmentally friendly means of getting people with various needs to places they NEED to get to. The most efficient way to do this is obviously public transportation provided buses are not running empty or near empty

Ron Dupuis

Ensuring all citizens have access to affordable and effective forms of transportation and have options for transportation. There are so many areas in the city to connect that we need to work together to create solutions to ensure everyone has access.

Jeff Huska

walk, run or bike. I include buses as it allows for many people utilizing one mode of transport decreasing the effects of pollution.

Richard Majkot

Dan Melanson

It is the city's responsibility to provide infrastructure and services to all citizens regardless of their choice of mode of transportation.

Ed Pokonzie

Public transportation is a growing necessity.

David Popescu

John Rodriguez

It means ensuring that various forms of transportation are available to all of our citizens such as bicycle paths, sidewalks, walking trails, Handi Transit, buses with bicycle racks and adjustable ramps, as well as automated visual and verbal stop announcements.

Candidate name 2. How are you going to support it in our community?

Jean-Raymond Audet

We must Subsidize our Public Transit System so Everyone can Travel within City Limits especially the poor the misfortunates, the disinherit and the handicap!

Brian Bigger

As Mayor I will be a champion for sustainable transportation. In my youth I cycled with
the Sudbury Cycling Club and won a gold medal at the Ontario Summer Games in 1974.
This passion for the great outdoors has stayed with me all through my life and is an
important factor in deciding to make Sudbury our home.

Jeanne Brohart

I would seriously look at reducing fairs for certain groups (seniors, students, special needs) if it can be shown that this would increase ridership. Express bus services may also be an option for longer routes if ridership is there (i.e., bus to Valley, etc.).

Ron Dupuis

My priority is to ensure all citizens have access to public transportation.

Jeff Huska

I believe in bike paths (automatically included in new development), walking trails and a streamline transit system.

Richard Majkot

Dan Melanson

As part of my infrastructure renewal program, I will address infrastructure needs such a strategy to build consistent, dedicated bike lanes per provincial standards throughout the city.

Ed Pokonzie

At every opportunity, I will use public transit.

Explanations:

Candidate name Explanations

Jean-Raymond Audet

The Problem with Sudbury and All other Municipal Governments is the Tax Avoidance by the Rich Commercial Industrial and Business Sector that can help us we this GOAL!

Brian Bigger

a) Although there is funding and support from the City, improved focus is needed.
b) This is key to sustainability and the City’s strategy to deal with our infrastructure funding gap.

Jeanne Brohart

A-Leaning toward this but need to see numbers. If tied to tourism, could be a great program.
B-I will vote against that because to implement this as a policy on major roads could tremendously slow down traffic. Cities such as Calgary have cyclist lanes and many motorists absolutely hate them for this very reason. I think the better option is to put cycling paths on alternate routes that move cyclists more efficiently throughout the city. There are obviously many places paths for cyclists could be made where there is no room for motor vehicles. I’d like to see options and numbers and push for some work on this each year in order to move the city forward on this initiative
D-I would not want to see a huge increase in bureaucracy for something that should be part of current administration. I would need greater detail as to what taxpayers actually want in this area and would like to see brainstorming sessions for what can be done at fairly low cost to help push needs of community forward in this area.

Jeff Huska

I believe in giving people safe options in transportation especially when they include healthy choices.

Richard Majkot

Dan Melanson

As part of the infrastructure renewal plan, we will have a standard for building bike lanes as part of road reconstruction, so the need for annual funding would not be necessary.

Ed Pokonzie

I have an ACM driver’s license and as such, I am authorized to drive a bus!
